What is a BER?

BER stands for Building Energy Rating and is a legal requirement for a vendor/landlord to provide a BER certificate before marketing their property for sale or rent. A suitably qualified assessor will inspect your property and check the overall floor area, age of property, heating system, insulation etc. with all the general information of your property inputted to a database which generates the rating for your home. The ratings range from A being the highest to G being the lowest or least energy efficient home. The BER provides a buyer with a guide as to how energy efficient your property is. Once completed a BER stays active for 10years so is not required again in that timeframe which is beneficial especially if you are renting a property. We can provide a list of local BER assessors if required and are happy to assist in arranging a BER for your home if needed. Further information or list of assessors is also available on www.seai.ie
